About Shravani Mela
A month-long pilgrimage of faith and devotion.
Shravani Mela is one of India's most important religious pilgrimages dedicated to Lord Shiva. During the holy month of Shravan, large numbers of devotees travel to Sultanganj to collect sacred Ganga water and carry it by Kanwar to Baba Baidyanath Dham at Deoghar.
The Kanwar pilgrimage from Sultanganj to Babadham is described by the District Administration of Deoghar as a 109-kilometre journey on foot. The saffron-clad Kanwariyas travel the route while chanting devotional calls of “Bol Bam”.
On reaching Babadham, pilgrims traditionally take a purifying dip in Shivaganga before entering Baba Baidyanath Temple and offering the sacred Ganga water to the Jyotirlinga.
